How We Built Hello Social Avenue From £0 To Supporting Over 150 Businesses

People often see the highlights.
The new office.
The team.
The events.
The client wins.
The speaking opportunities.
The awards.
What they don't always see is everything that came before it.
The years of uncertainty.
The failed ideas.
The lessons learned the hard way.
The moments where it would have been easier to quit.
Today, Hello Social Avenue has supported more than 150 businesses through strategy sessions, events, coaching, training, content creation and marketing services.
But the story didn't start there.
In fact, it started long before Hello Social Avenue even existed.

Before Marketing, There Was Music
Most people know me through marketing.
What many don't know is that my first business lessons came through music.
As a teenager and young adult, I spent years writing songs, touring the UK, playing shows and building an audience.
Some gigs were incredible.
Others involved performing to almost nobody.
I travelled hundreds of miles for opportunities that sometimes led nowhere. I released music. Built a fanbase. Got songs played on national radio. Charted in the UK Singer-Songwriter Charts. Worked with producers and record labels.
And learned one of the most valuable lessons of my career.
Talent alone is rarely enough.
The best songs don't always win.
The best products don't always win.
The businesses that grow are often the businesses that learn how to communicate their value.
Without realising it, I was learning marketing.
My First Businesses Didn't Work
Before Hello Social, I tried several business ideas.
Some never got off the ground.
Others generated a little momentum before fading away.
Each time I thought the next idea would be different.
Each time I learned something.
At the time, those experiences felt like failures.
Looking back, they were education.
Nobody sees the businesses that didn't work.
They only see the one that eventually did.
The truth is that every failed attempt taught me skills that would become useful later.
Sales.
Networking.
Content creation.
Branding.
Resilience.
Problem solving.
Most importantly, persistence.
The Birth Of Hello Social Avenue
In 2023, my wife Abbie and I launched Hello Social.
Like many businesses, it started with a simple idea.
Help businesses market more effectively.
At the time, there were countless agencies focused on posting content.
We wanted to focus on something bigger.
Strategy.
Messaging.
Lead generation.
Business growth.
We believed marketing should support business objectives, not simply generate likes and comments.
That philosophy still shapes everything we do today.
The Early Days
The beginning wasn't glamorous.
There was no big investment.
No large team.
No fancy office.
Just conversations.
Networking events.
Strategy sessions.
Content.
Referrals.
Relationship building.
We focused on helping people.
One client at a time.
One meeting at a time.
One piece of content at a time.
Looking back, growth rarely happened in giant leaps.
It happened through consistency.
The small actions repeated over and over again.
The Lessons That Changed Everything
As the business grew, a few lessons became impossible to ignore.
Relationships Matter More Than Reach
Some of our biggest opportunities didn't come from viral content.
They came from conversations.
Introductions.
Events.
Partnerships.
Trust.
Social media creates visibility.
Relationships create opportunities.
The businesses that understand both tend to grow faster.
Strategy Beats Activity
Many businesses are busy.
Very few are strategic.
We've worked with companies creating lots of content but generating very few results.
We've also worked with businesses posting less frequently but achieving significantly better outcomes.
The difference is usually clarity.
A plan almost always outperforms random activity.
Consistency Wins
This lesson appears everywhere.
In music.
In business.
In marketing.
In sales.
The businesses that stay visible usually outperform the businesses that disappear for months at a time. Not because they're more talented.
Because they're more consistent.
Supporting More Than 150 Businesses
One of the things I'm most proud of isn't revenue.
It's impact.
Through workshops, networking events, speaking engagements, strategy sessions, coaching programmes and agency services, we've now supported more than 150 businesses.
Some needed marketing help.
Some needed clarity.
Some needed confidence.
Some simply needed a plan.
Every conversation has reinforced something I strongly believe.
Most businesses already have enough expertise.
They just need a clearer way of communicating it.
Building Something Bigger
Today, Hello Social is much more than a social media agency.
It's becoming an ecosystem.
Strategy sessions.
The Hello Marketing newsletter.
The Small Business Marketing Academy.
The Hello CRM platform.
Events like Marketing Mixer.
Speaking engagements.
Each piece exists for the same reason.
To help business owners grow with greater clarity and confidence.
What's Next?
People often ask where we're heading.
The honest answer is that we're still building.
We're still learning.
We're still improving.
The goal was never to become the biggest agency in the country.
The goal was to create something meaningful.
A business that helps people.
Creates opportunities.
Supports our family.
Provides careers for our team.
And leaves things better than we found them.
If we can continue doing that, I'll consider it a success.
Final Thoughts
When people look at a business from the outside, it's easy to assume growth happens quickly.
It rarely does.
Behind every successful business are years of lessons, mistakes, setbacks and persistence.
Hello Social Avenue is no different.
We're incredibly grateful for every client, partner, team member and supporter who has been part of the journey so far.
And while we've come a long way, I genuinely believe we're only getting started.
If you're building a business and looking for practical marketing and growth advice, you can subscribe to the Hello Marketing newsletter or book a strategy session.
We believe every successful business has a story.
And often, the best chapters are still waiting to be written.
